Shannon M. Lane, Ph.D. is the Program Manager for research at the Institute for Homeland Security (IHS) at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). While self – employed working with senior citizens, Dr. Lane remained active in the academic community as a member of the SHSU Institutional Review Board (IRB) where she reviewed research proposals for human subject compliance. During her first SHSU appointment at The Center for Rural Studies, Dr. Lane constructed strategic plans and research projects for rural communities throughout the state, while also running the Texas Rural Internship Program through the Texas Department of Agriculture. Prior to her return to her native Texas, Dr. Lane was the Undergraduate Coordinator in The Department of Sociology at Mississippi State University and as such directed multiple facets of undergraduate study including student orientation, registration, program marketing and program publications. Today, Dr. Lane is busy working with the IHS team on the coordination of programming and educational outreach to meet grant requirements while also facilitating the work of outside researchers on special topics projects. In her free time, she enjoys college sports, movies and spending her time with her rescue dog Ms. Kami Sue.
