Dr. Marcus Funk is a seasoned journalist, innovative scholar and dedicated educator. He leads the journalism program in Sam Houston State’s mass communication department and teaches popular courses on media literacy, podcasting and digital journalism. His scholarship focuses on assemblage, agenda setting and disinformation within podcasting and digital journalism. It has been published in New Media & Society, Journalism Studies and Journalism Practice, among others, and won awards at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the Broadcast Education Association.

At the Institute for Homeland Security, he produces and co-hosts Structurally Sound, a bi-weekly podcast on critical infrastructure innovation and protection. He also produces digital media for training initiatives and collaborative programs and produces live broadcasts of IHS events.

Originally from Houston, he grew up in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He is a Longhorn and Eagle Scout, and a fan of homemade barbeque and horror movies. He and his wife Emily have one daughter, Rosalyn, and too many cats.
